Due to a variety of ecosystems, seasons, and weather patterns, the activities in Sisal change throughout the year. Based on these elements, we plan an experience for you that follows nature's rhythms.

Sisal is located inside the El Palmer Biosphere “Los Petenes” Reserve. Petén is the Maya word for a forest ecosystem that consists of circular plant formations and complex habitats perfect for endangered or vulnerable fauna species such as the jaguar. Resident and migratory birds use the forest for nesting, resting, and feeding before their long journeys home. The forest includes four species of mangrove trees, which function as the lungs of the planet, cleaning more air per area than a rainforest.

The area is unique with seven different ecosystems: wetlands, savanna grasslands, coastal dunes, mangroves, jungles, underground rivers, and coral reefs. The diversity of flora and fauna is vast.

Possible activities: bird watching • wildlife photography • Flora and fauna interpretation • Forest trekking • night tours • Canoeing • SUP • Kayaking • off-road cycling • snorkelling a shipwreck • swimming in freshwater springs • Local style fishing • Virgin beaches • add on overnight camping kit for the ultimate immersive experience with nature (extra cost)

Included: Multi-lingual, certified nature guide, comfortable transportation, entrance fees, purified water/reusable bottles, organic coffee/tea, healthy snacks (fruits, nuts, locally made bread-vegan and gluten-free upon request), seafood lunch (or dietary alternative), outdoor equipment, i.e., binoculars, dry bag, snorkel gear, jackets, headlamps

What to know: Depending on the weather and the habits of wildlife, logistics may be adjusted slightly. The weather can be very humid, and the sun is powerful. Mosquitoes are a possibility. Wear lightweight, long sleeves/pants for ultimate protection. Water shoes with good tread are best for uneven terrains and water activities. Generally, this experience is moderate to a high level of challenge but can be adjusted to accommodate the group.

What to bring: reusable water bottle, swimsuit, change of dry clothing, towel, comfortable walking waterproof shoes, hat, non-toxic insect repellent, bio-degradable sun protection, camera, personal outdoor equipment

Cancellation: Cancel before 24 hours for a full refund. Less than 24 hours pay 50% to cover third parties.
